Let Life Touch You — The Courage to Receive

Greetings Citizens of Love

As we enter November, I invite you to consider something we often overlook on the spiritual path: our willingness to receive. We devote so much attention to what we need to understand, release or change. Yet there is also growth in allowing ourselves to be loved, supported and touched by the goodness already present in our lives.

The Courage to Receive

Many of us have become very capable of managing. We organise, provide, listen and carry on. When someone asks how we are, “I’m fine” arrives before we have even considered the question. Being dependable has become so familiar that we hardly notice how difficult it is to let someone do something for us.

Receiving can bring us face to face with beliefs we seldom examine. Perhaps we believe that accepting help makes us a burden, that kindness creates a debt, or that pleasure must be earned through exhaustion. We may have inherited a family understanding of love in which usefulness determined our worth. Becoming aware of these beliefs gives us an opportunity to choose how we wish to live now.

There is tenderness in admitting that we need company, encouragement or rest. It asks us to loosen our attachment to being the person who always copes. Within that honesty, another person has room to know us more fully. Our relationships can deepen when we allow care to travel in both directions.

Discernment belongs here too. Notice whether an offer respects your freedom and whether someone’s care is consistent with their actions. Trust can develop gradually. You can receive a thoughtful gesture and still maintain a boundary. You can appreciate someone’s generosity and remain honest about what you need.

Our spiritual practice can include these very ordinary moments. Accept a compliment without explaining it away. Let someone make you a cup of tea. Enjoy a peaceful afternoon without filling every minute with a task. When joy appears, see whether you can stay with it long enough to feel it. You do not need to postpone every pleasure until all your concerns have been resolved.

In our relationship with God, receiving may begin with becoming quiet enough to notice what sustains us: the friend who listens, the insight that arrives during prayer, the beauty that brings us back to the present. We participate by responding to what is available and by asking clearly for the help we need.

This month, gently ask yourself: What goodness am I finding difficult to let in? Begin with one small act of receiving. Notice the discomfort, if it comes, and give yourself time. A familiar belief can soften through a new experience.

As it is Above so it is Below

November’s celestial movements offer a symbolic setting for this contemplation. In traditional astrology, we consider the condition of the planets, their domiciles and their motion. Mercury and Venus turn direct during the month, but a station is a slow turning point. Allow decisions and understanding time to mature. Dates below follow South African and Greek local time, both UTC+2 in November.

9 November — New Moon at 16°53′ Scorpio

The luminaries conjoin in Scorpio, a fixed water sign and the nocturnal domicile of Mars. The Moon is traditionally in her fall in Scorpio, where her significations of nourishment and bodily ease meet a more guarded terrain. For our monthly reflection, consider how vigilance affects your ability to receive care. Where do you require greater trust, clearer boundaries or an honest conversation? Let a beginning take shape quietly, with attention to what can be sustained.

13 November — Mercury stations direct at 5°02′ Scorpio

Mercury signifies speech, letters, calculation, commerce and the making of agreements. His return to direct motion in the domicile of Mars invites a patient return to matters requiring investigation and precise words. Revisit unfinished correspondence, check details and clarify what has been misunderstood. Mercury remains slow at the station; leave room for further information before reaching a final judgement. In personal exchanges, ask directly for what you need and give the other person time to answer.

14 November — Venus stations direct at 22°52′ Libra

Venus, the Lesser Benefic, turns direct in her own domicile, Libra. Her essential dignity supports her significations of concord, affection, pleasure, adornment and agreement, while her station counsels patience with their unfolding. Reflect on the fairness of your exchanges. Does giving leave you depleted? Can you accept kindness without immediately finding a way to repay it? As Venus gradually gathers motion, attend to the choices that make mutual consideration a lived practice.

24 November — Full Moon at 2°20′ Gemini

The Moon stands opposite the Sun across Gemini and Sagittarius, the domiciles of Mercury and Jupiter respectively. This mutable axis offers a reflection on the relationship between particulars and wider judgement. Listen to the words being spoken, examine the information before you and consider how your beliefs shape your interpretation. In the spirit of receiving, allow a conversation to add to your understanding. You may discover that a familiar response can give way to a more thoughtful one.

The goddess asteroids

Ceres, Vesta and Pallas were unknown to the ancient astrologers. Their inclusion here is a separate contemplation drawn from their mythology, rather than part of traditional planetary doctrine.

22 November — Ceres stations retrograde at 23°57′ Cancer. Ceres’ stories of cultivation, motherhood and the cycles of loss and return offer a reflection on nourishment. Consider which family customs sustain you and where a different form of care is needed. Make space to be supported as well as to support others.

28 November — Vesta stations direct at 12°41′ Aries. The goddess of the hearth and sacred flame invites attention to what you tend faithfully. Choose a simple practice that replenishes your capacity to be present: prayer, quiet reflection or time devoted to something you love.

Looking ahead to 1 December — Pallas stations direct at 3°18′ Aries. This event appears on 30 November in the American calendar. Through Athena’s association with wisdom and skilful counsel, consider how a pattern you have recognised can inform your next action.

Numerology Insight

Using the calendar-year method, 2026 reduces to 1, and November gives us 1 + 11 = 12, reducing to a Universal Month 3. In numerological symbolism, three is associated with expression, creativity and sociability. Let this be an invitation to give enjoyment a place in your life. Speak warmly, make something simply for the pleasure of making it, and spend time with people whose company nourishes you. Notice how naturally you express appreciation, and practise receiving appreciation with the same openness.

Oracle Card of the Month

Contemplation — The Open Hand

Imagine an open hand, relaxed and available. This original oracle reflection invites you to notice where you are holding so tightly that receiving has become difficult. Soften what you can, while keeping the boundaries you need. When an appropriate offer of kindness comes, pause before your habitual refusal. A simple “Thank you, I would appreciate that” may become your practice for the month.
